Потом еще увидели
Подумали, что наверно св. Георгий - покровитель Амерсфорта. В тот момент я еще не подумала, что название из главное церкви - St Joris kerk - это тоже про Георгия.
Ленка говорит - о, я как будто в Москве, там тоже св. Георгий покровитель =)

St George is best known in the UK as the patron saint of England. He is honoured on St George’s Day, which is on April 23 - the date of his death in 303 AD.
But he’s also connected with many other places and activities.
St George is also patron saint of Amersfoort (in the Netherlands), Aragon and Catalonia (both in Spain), Bavaria, Beirut, Bulgaria, Constantinople (modern Istanbul in Turkey) and Ethiopia as well as Ferrara, Genoa and Reggio Calabria (all in Italy).
His patronages also include Freiburg (in Germany), Georgia, Gozo (in Malta - as well as Malta itself), Greece, Lithuania, Lod (in Israel), London, Modica (in Sicily), Montenegro, Moscow, Palestine, Piran and Ptuj (both in Slovenia), along with Portugal, Serbia and Slovenia.
And, as if that’s not enough for George to be responsible for, he’s also the saint who looks after agricultural workers, archers, armourers, butchers, cavalry, chivalry, farmers, horses and horsemen, knights, Scouts, saddle-makers, shepherds and sheep.
In addition to all that, poor old St George has also been lumbered with the role of being the patron saint of herpes, leprosy, skin diseases, syphilis and the plague.
Вкратце тут написано, что он покровитель немалого количества городов, активностей, болезней, и это при том, что здесь еще ничего не написано про Москву, русскую царскую семью и тронный зал в Эрмитаже =) Но мы все-таки были в Амерсфорте, а не в Москве
И возможность просто сесть в машину и поехать погулять в Амерсфорте после работы на часок-другой - бесценна. Я наконец-то связала воедино свои представления об Амерсфорте, и у меня появилась целостная картина города. И от этого я его люблю еще больше
